Salt Lake City School Library Mission Statement

The mission of the Library Learning Center is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. A strong Library Learning Center program, administered by a certified Library Technology Teacher, positively impacts student achievement. The Library Technology Teacher is a certified teacher, instructional partner, information specialist and program coordinator.

  • Utah Standards for Library Media were created by certified teacher librarians to support the integration of information literacy and media skills across the curriculum. They are intended to be taught, not in isolation, but in collaboration with classroom teachers. This collaboration will deepen student learning, foster independent reading, develop reading stamina, build task resiliency, strengthen text-dependent writing, and increase the students’ information literacy. The standards are organized into three clusters:

  • Reading Engagement
  • Research and Information
  • Digital Citizenship
  • Media Literacy
  • Utah Library Media Core Standards K - 5

    The students at Uintah Elementary:

  • Will attend library each week for 45 minutes with their class.
  • Will have an assignment aligned to the common core to complete during library.
  • Will receive a Library grade each term reflecting academics and behavior.
  • Will READ books for enjoyment and for educational information.  Reading time is given each week during checkout.

Ms. Edgley has a bachelor of Communications degree from Brigham Young University, a teaching certificate and M.Ed. from Weber State University, her library degree from Utah State University and an ELL (MLL) endorsement from Southern Utah University.  I support libraries at the community and state level and have served on CLAU--the Children's Library Association of Utah on reading committes for our book recommendations and am the UELMA president for 2022-23 working with librarians statewide!  I love reading, libraries, students and that light bulb moment when the book connects with the reader!
