School Community Council (SCC)
The Uintah School Community Council meets monthly to discuss important issues pertinent to the success of Uintah students and families. Our topics include: School Success Plans, School LAND Trust fund usage, implementation of the Wellness Policy, community engagement, and other topics of interest to the school community. Parents have a direct role in helping to shape the policies around these issues as well as how the Trustlands monies are spent. For instance, during the 2021-2022 school year, Uintah received over $54,000 in Trustlands funds! The SSC decided to spend the money to help pay for our English Language Development teacher to work with our MLL population along with other students who are struggling and need help. Money was also spent on paraprofessionals who worked with small groups of students or one-on-one with those who need extra help and support while we were remote and while we were in-person. Some funds were also spent to purchase hands-on science materials for students to use while remote and while in-person. As a result of this support, several more students scored proficient on the WIDA language assessment and the school was able to increase the percent of students who scored proficient on the End-of-Level tests by 8% in L.A., 3.5% in Math, and 11% in science. Way to go
For the year 2022-2023, the Uintah SCC decided to use the bulk of our Trustlands funds to continue to pay for our English Language Development teacher, so that she can help our students who are learning English as a second language. She will also be working with our students with disabilities and with other students who may need extra support. The remaining money was used to help fund paraprofessionals to help with student learning as well as to purchase science or technology supplies for the school. As a result of this support, several students scored proficient on the WIDA language assessment this year, and we are awaiting the results of this year's End-of-Level tests as those have yet to be taken.
Uintah’s School Community Council (SCC) consists of parent members and faculty members, including the principal. Participation is encouraged at all meetings by anyone who would like to attend. Membership on the committee is established at the beginning of each year either by election or appointment. This year’s election meeting will take place on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 4:45 p.m. via Zoom. Please see the information below on how to participate via Zoom. SCC Meeting Information
The SCC Council generally meets once a month on the 2nd Thursday of the month. There are a few exceptions a year due to holidays, half-days or SEP conferences. For the last few years, meetings have been held on Zoom, and we will continue this format as it is convenient for most people. All patrons of the school are invited to attend meetings, but if they would like to speak and are not a voting SIC member, then they need to request to be put on the agenda at least 7 days in advance. Contact Amanda Funai (SCC Chair) or Bruce P. Simpson (Principal) to be considered for the agenda.
The next meeting will be on Thursday, May 11th at 4:45 p.m. on Zoom. Click the link below to attend the meeting. You must either be a parent or guardian of a student in our school, an SLCSD Board Member or employee, have been invited by the SCC Chair or Principal to speak, or have another valid purpose to be at the meeting, otherwise, you will be removed from the meeting. Anyone causing any kind of disruption will be removed from the meeting and barred from reentry. We are here to support the students, teachers, parents, and the Uintah school community.
