Welcome to Uintah SCC Meeting. Marie Jeffries leading April Meeting.

Agenda: Open Meeting/Roll Call/Introductions Review and approve previous month’s minutes. Marie moved to approve the minutes, Ellen seconded, all in favor. Review any previous unfinished Council business. Reports

•Report: Counselor Ms. Melissa
o Uintah Positive Behavior Plan HB 58 states that “Each school must develop a Positive Behavior Plan to address the causes of student use of tobacco, alcohol, electronic cigarette products, and other controlled substances through promoting positive behaviors.”
o Programs we already have in place: SEL Classroom lessons (38 lessons per month),Individual & Group Counseling/Social Work Services, Bullying and Harassment Prevention Lessons, Zones of Regulation, Botvin Life Skills Training, Move this World,Restorative Circles/Practices, Inner Explorer and many more school-based programs,clubs and service programs.

•SIC Report:
o Haven’t met since last SCC together so last update was given is most current. Next meeting is next Thursday.

•Principal Report:
o Staffing Update: Two 1st grade openings, 5th Grade opening and 6th Grade opening.One 1st grade teacher was placed. 5th & 6th position there are a lot of great candidates and interviewing for those positions will start this week.
o Upcoming School Activities: We are in the middle of spirit week this week. Next week is emergency preparedness week which includes the Great Shakeout. Office Professional Day.
o Field Update: Temporary fencing went up today. They are working on signage to keep students and neighbors off the grass. They put down sand and see to even out the field and grow grass. The thought is that it will take into the summer to get the grass where it needs to be. Field day will be blacktop day instead.
o End of level testing starts at the end of the month.
o Superintendent is coming to visit the school at the end of the month.

o Ellen was hoping to mimic what Clayton is using, making sure it is equitable for all students.

o Uintah’s current dress code is pulled right from the Student Handbook that the board approves.

Approve December Minutes, Ellen moved to approve, Marie seconds, all in favor, no oppose.

Reports

•       SIC Report: 

o   Reviewed our School Improvement Plan (SIP), specifically reviewing our 2024-2025 goals, along with coming up with our 2025-2026 goals. Also talked to teachers about what data are we collecting this year to compose goals for our students. SIP members will discuss with their teammates and reconvene their findings at a future faculty meeting. Data points include Rise data, Acadience Reading and Math results, Map tests, along with Mid-Year reports.

•       Principal Report: 

o   Went over School Land Trust Budget, if any left over the rest will go towards supporting paraprofessionals and students.

o   Went over Acadience Math and Reading scores from the last year and current scores from this year, to properly go over goals for SIP and Comprehensive Needs Assessment.

o   Went over possible other data points not included in testing, like attendance, behavior, unicorn club, and suspension data.

o   School Rules and Expectations assembly, to go over and review expectations with each of the grade levels as we have reached the halfway point of the school year.

o   Parent Teacher Conferences have opened recently, over 50% of parents have already signed up.

o   Science Fair judging on the 16^th, to judge the student’s science fair projects.

•       PTA Report: 

o    Science Fest on the 17^th, where students and parents will be able to view all the science fair projects created this year. Planetarium and Bird people bringing things to science fest to have entertainment.

o   Art night coming up on May 2^nd.

•       Other Items as time permits

o   Dress code will be addressed again once it becomes warmer, maybe tweaking some wording in the student handbook to be as clear with the dress code as possible.

o   Response about the Accessibility Ramp stated that it has been brought to their attention, however there may not be a budget to proceed with the plans for that. Talked about moving up the chain of command wit

Reports
• SIC Report:
o Balancing classes next year. Parent requests are noticeably disrupting the balance of classes, and for next year Mr. Simpson to draft a letter to parents explaining how teachers create classes, and how heavy parent requests may impact the evenness of classes. Possibly also using another mode of communication with parents at the end of the year with the request form, possibly using the phone system set in place.
• Principal Report:
o Flags on the intersection between 15th and 17th should be implemented for the walking route.
o Trying to keep supplies in classrooms refreshed more often. Need a plan to get these supplies recycled.
o Brings up reunification drills, where parents come and pick their kids up from a new location unannounced. Brings up possible conflict with parents coming to pick up their kids early. Keeping parent information with teachers could be a good solution for this problem.
• PTA Report:
o Uintah goes East will be collecting items until the 18th, where then items will be delivered to East High School. Reminders will go out through parent square and other ways to communicate with parents.
o Science fest coming up on January 24th. Grad students will be coming to help with science fest.
• Other Items as time permits
o Accessibility Ramp for the lower playground brought up again, new bond that the taxpayers are paying, some of the possible money from said bond can possibly go to a ramp at Uintah. Could be installed by the time our current students who could benefit from a ramp would reach 6th grade. Respond to Marie about adding this onto the message to the government about the bond and ramp and sign off as Community Council members. Send to chain of command.

SCC Business- Online Training, online training this Thursday from 7:00-8:00.
Reports
• SIC Report:
o Discussed how to measure one of the pieces of SIP, which is student talk & discourse. Bruce will be collecting data. Needs to show measurable growth.
o JA in a day. Considering having people come in to teach lessons. Bruce is getting more information and having representative come to next faculty meeting to share more information.
• Principal Report:
o Review Emergency Plan: If need to evacuate we went through Emergency Release of Students. Question got asked about CERT Supplies and us being a community center. There hasn’t been recent discussion with CERT Team regarding supplies, but we can find out.
o Safe Technology & Digital Citizenship: Goal is to keep kids safe. HB213 & State Board Rule R277-491 requires us to filter the internet. We use ContentKeeper internet. District is diligent about blocking unsafe sites. There are different filtering levels between elementary and secondary schools. We do us Jamf Mobile Device Management for mobile devices like iPads. LanSchool is used to monitor student’s screens during lab time. The district has a Acceptable Use Policy with outlines the District’s expectation for responsible use and digital citizenship. Ms. Edgley goes over safe internet usage, commonsensemedia.org, in age-appropriate ways about safety on the internet. If inappropriate content is accessed, it is asked that it be reported to Mr. Simpson. We can block any website needed. Mr. Simpson gets a report weekly regarding inappropriate searches that are made and works through that appropriately. We use 1-to-1 laptops. Mai applications that are used are ST Math, Lexia, Dreambox, Typing without Tears, Microsoft Suite, etc. Our greatest threats are cyberbullying, viewing of violet/mature
content, predators, and pornographic material. Phone usage has been restricted when needed. We deal with any acceptable use issues on a safe-by-safe basis. o Safe Walking Routes: Website has some glitches. With boundary changes our routes hardly changed. Is there anywhere that we can think of that needs attention or changes to? Marie recommends that 1700 So. & 1500 E needs attention as there are no flags and/or crossing guards.

• SIC Report:
 How to best use Ms. Gustafson in her intervention role and how is best way to maximize her time. Each grade level will discuss how to best utilize her.
 Halloween parade route. Still having parents outside but tweak things inside so all students have an opportunity to see all other grade levels.
 Adjust PD times for Call Survey for teachers.
 Website expectations for teachers- disclosure documents, canvas, updated regularly, etc.
 Looking at Acadience data at next faculty meeting.
• Principal Report:
 How well we did last year: Language Arts around 80% *Highest in District, Math around 80% *Highest in the District, Science 87% *Highest in the District
 SIP 3-Year Goals: By June of 2026, 89% K-3 proficiency in EOY Acadience Reading Assessment, 88% 4-6 proficiency in EOY Acadience Reading Assessment. By June 2026, 80% K-6 proficiency in EOY Acadience Math Assessment. By June 2026, 90% of students will be able to name the Zones of Regulation and will be able to describe at least 2 strategies in each zone which can be used to help regulate themselves while in that zone. By June of 2026, we will reduce gap in math growth scores and in reading proficiency scores between SWD & general education students by a minimum of 9% from the 2022 levels as measured by Acadience Reading & Math assessments & the Reading Inventory Assessment.
 SIP 2023-2024 Goals: By June 2024, 87% of K-3 students will be proficient on EOY Acadience Reading Assessment, 85% 4-6 proficiency in EOY Growth Measure or similar assessment. By June 2024, 75% K-6 proficiency in EOY Acadience Math Assessment. By June 2024, 90% of students will be able to name the Zones of Regulation and will be able to describe at least 1 strategy in each zone which can be used to help regulate themselves while in that zone. Report from Mary Jane:
• Ms. Mary Jane Moore uses September to teach Anti-Harassment, like what bullying, harassment, and discrimination feels, sounds, and looks like. Teaches to safely handle these situations for self and others, along with how to prevent these things. Each lesson is catered to each grade, pertaining to their needs specifically. 3rd-6th goes through G-19 and G-20 policies, along with taking these policies home to discuss with their grown-ups. Also talks about the use of the Safe-UT app and its uses.
• Ms. Mary Jane also talks about the Positive Behavior plan or the House Bill 58. Each school is required to address the student use of substances and preventable measures against these uses. She explains more in depth about these plans like SEL Classroom Lessons, Individual and Group Counseling, Bullying and Harassment Prevention, Restorative Circles, Inner Explorer, 6th Grade Service Projects, Move this World, Zones of Regulation (Learning regulation tools and coping strategies), and other group school activities like the Rainbow Run, Art Night, Honor Patrol, and Reading Buddies.
• Ms. Mary Jane believes that these Bullying and Harassment strategies have been working and allows the students to be more aware of what bullying, and harassment is. Targeted bullying is low with the effective strategies like classroom behaviors, level systems, and effective communication strategies.
Report from Principal:
• Mr. Simpson discusses about how there is a Paraprofessional for each grade level except for Kindergarten, which has two. This allows teachers to have the extra hands they need to handle these larger class sizes due to the lack of students moving to SLARTS, along with the new move ins from some other schools shutting down. Up 36 kids from last year’s school year. Mr. Simpson is potentially looking for more full-time educators to support these kids, especially in 4th grade, where the ratio is 1 adult to 28 students.
• Year has started up well, looking forward to PTA events like the Rainbow Run. Picture day coming up as well. New 4th grade teacher has also helped a lot with the class sizes and has made classes much smoother and more cohesive.

• Parent Square was brought up. Marie Jefferies brings up that notifications may not be as streamlined, as you get a notification from the app and an email, which may be overwhelming. Potentially talks about talking to parents more about the settings to disa
